IL, NS, Q- This 5-credit course is one quarter of the 2-quarter mathematics for elementary education sequence. Prospective or practicing elementary school teachers will investigate problem-solving techniques, geometry, probability, and statistics related to topics taught at the K-8 level. Topics will include problem-solving, proportional reasoning, geometry and its applications, measurement, simulating probabilistic situations, sampling, organizing and interpreting data, graphing, and the use of technology. Students will be required to complete 5 hours of observation in a K-8 math classroom and submit an evaluation from the field site supervisor.
Prerequisites
Placement into ENGL 95 or above; AND successful completion of MATH/MFUND 84, 85, 86, or 87, or placement into MATH 95/ &107/ &131/ &132/ &146.
