EDP, H- Students explore a survey of literature composed within or about the United States from earliest written expression through the 19th Century. Through fiction, poetry, drama, non-fiction, and/or film, students practice literary research and textual analysis based on literary elements and devices, cultural contexts, and reflections of the complex human experience. Authors and texts under investigation may vary but typically illuminate aspects of Creation Myths, Colonization, Enslavement, Abolition, Enlightenment, Romanticism, Transcendentalism, Regionalism, Realism, and Naturalism. Within this survey, the course may also focus on a theme chosen by the instructor.

Completion of ENGL&101 OR ENGL111 with a grade of 2.0 or higher.
